Community
In addition to the below information, please click here to review other ways we engage with stakeholders, as published in the Landcom Annual Report 2010.
Moderate Income Housing
The strong NSW property market has placed home ownership out of reach for many people. Of particular concern is the number of essential service workers whose contribution is crucial for our economic growth and our city’s liveability.
Community Engagement
We actively involve the community in whatever we do, because we believe community consultation is a must for proper urban planning and development. Our experience and research tells us that community involvement brings about better results for all.
To have a say on any of Landcom's current projects just send us an email - don't forget to include your name, email address and postcode, as well as the name of the project that you are commenting on, and we will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible.
Community Development
One of our most popular community development programmes is the Welcome Programme. Landcom’s aim with this programme is to help new residents settle in more easily into their new surroundings. Our Welcome Workers facilitate functions and events to help new residents to build friendships and networks.
Landcom has been implementing this popular program for some years in Sydney's northwest and southwest suburbs, with the help of Connections Community Development, Uniting Care Narellan and Macarthur Diversity Services Initiative.
New residents receive a Welcome Pack that includes a telephone book, rail/bus time tables, a guide to council services (the dos and don'ts for recycling, garbage collection days, etc) as well as a listing of shopping, post office, schools and other facilities in the neighbourhood.
At Victoria Park we have helped the residents establish their own incorporated community group. Some residents told us they’d like to be involved in helping the community to grow but they didn’t know how to go about it. We undertook to help them develop a plan. Since 2005, Landcom has been actively supporting the Victoria Park community’s growth by kick-starting a community activities program, facilitating a community group, and preparing resources for community members that will help them sustain networks in the future.
We are currently working on a pilot Walking School Bus project in Sydney’s northwest suburbs with the Parklea Public School so that we can gauge the school community’s willingness to participate. If there is sufficient interest from parents, we are aiming to have the Walking School Bus implemented in 2007.
